Overview
VEditor is a high-performance, automated video-review and transcoding pipeline built during Google Summer of Code 2026 at FOSSASIA. Designed to process hundreds of conference and session recordings from platforms like Eventyay, it replaces manual post-production with an asynchronous pipeline featuring programmatic review gates.
Architecture & Engineering Highlights
- Multi-Phase Pipeline: Structured into distinct phases—Ingest, Silence & Slide Detection, Automated Trimming, Human Review Gate, and Final Transcoding.
- PyAV Frame-Level Precision: Leverages direct C-bindings via PyAV for low-overhead audio/video demuxing and decoding, avoiding subprocess shelling bottlenecks.
- Asynchronous Task Queue (RQ): Distributed job orchestration powered by Redis Queue (RQ), ensuring non-blocking ingest and fault-tolerant background transcode jobs.
- Human-in-the-Loop Review Gates: Employs FastAPI endpoints with PostgreSQL state machines to present reviewers with pre-cut timestamps, slide cue-points, and waveform previews before triggering full 1080p/AV1 exports.
- CI-Enforced Boundaries: Strict separation between core processing primitives, worker queues, and API gateways enforced through containerized test suites.
